Matt Black has been DJing and making music for around 12 years. His original love was hardcore and drum and bass but it was upon hearing a John Digweed mix tape back in 1994 that he realised his calling in life He began by playing in pubs and bars around South London before getting his first club gig in 1995. Since then he has played for a number of London's biggest underground promoters, including Absolution, Feersum, Neighbourhood Dilemma, Sunflowers, Savage and more. Probably one of his most memorable achievements to date is filling in for Luke Brancaccio at Sin at the Dogstar where he showed that he had the skill and charisma to play to a large crowd who were totally entranced. As well as working via promoters, Matt has put together his own club nights. These include Pleasure at Plastic People, Scream at Club 9, and Rigid Funk at Belushi's. Matt has also set up many other nights with his own production company, Housefeelings. He has also been hosting the Segment records parties in central London, the last of which was the Xmas charity special on December 17th where Matt was joined by Andy Newland (Audio Deluxe) Keith Mc Donnell (Techtonic) and the one and only Jonathan Lisle! In 2004, Matt performed a mini tour of Poland taking in some of the major cities in the country including Warsaw, Gdansk and Krakow. He also played for Audio Deluxe at the Electrowerkz in London, which is one of the best up and coming nights in the capital as well as The Gallery at Turnmills where he won many new fans with his mix of tough breaks and melodic and driving house music. Matt also played for Empathy in Bristol, which is one of the leading underground nights in the area. Recently Matt has started his own radio show at www.eccentricbeats.com every first and third Wednesday of the month called The Segment records show. The shows aim will be to promote artists from Segment records as well as DJ’s who have supported the label. Matt is not only a DJ, but also produces tracks. His productions have been very successful and have been played on a number of radio stations including Kiss FM, Galaxy FM, Juice FM, Beat 106, XFM and more. His single, Sub Aqua-Listen, was mailed out via Power Promotions and received a very favourable response from some of the UK's top DJs and was massive in Ibiza in the summer of 2003. Sub Aqua’s latest single "Dollars" is currently available on a white label from cooler record shops and is already gaining many fans while his collaboration with Nick Hook Lifecycle was released on Segment records in October last year and his own single Matt Black feat Edel Melancholy rage was released in June this year. Matt's current labour of love is Segment records, the label which he manages. The first release, Eelke Kleijn's '4.5 Billion Years', sold out within a month and the second release, James Talk's 'Beef Curtains', was released in August 2004. Since then Segment records has kept up the high quality releases and has gained support from some of the top DJ's in this country and around the world.
